Documentation of an artist inspired expedition from New York City based people: Ana May Dutton (skateboarder), Magda Love (muralist, painter) and Cody Umans (artist)
where Douglas Miles (artist, ceo Apache Skateboards) organized events in the community of the San Carlos reservation where the artists could experience social activities with youth and people on the reservation.
Douglas Miles and Magda Love collaborate on a Mural on the local Apache Radio station’s wall. Assisted by Mile’s family and friends the wall was painted in two days.
Miles also facilitated a skateboarding event at the handbuilt (DIY) skatepark on the Apache Reservation of San Carlos, AZ. In collaboration with Ana May Dutton, her skateboard sponsors Shut, and other New York City skateboarding community brands such as: Dunno Skatebaords, Shut NYC, SeeYew NYC, and Rockstar Bearings, The youth skateboarders on the reservation were able to compete and all who attended left with skateboarding products.
The video documents a brief portion of the experience and some of the experiences of the amazing Apache people. The project discusses issues like homelessness, poverty on the reservation. As well as the beauty of humanity and preserved culture among the San Carlos community.
